Being a vet of Naval aviation, I've been watching this series. Then I noticed this,
That was the squadron I was in from 75 to 79. Kind of glad I'm not there now.

The Squadron is called "The Mighty Shrikes" so I guess it's supposed to be a shrike. There is also a missle called a Shrike, named after the
same bird. It must be a mean lil bastage.

Here's the an exerpt from the Wiki article about shrikes...
A shrike is a passerine bird of the family Laniidae which is known for its habit of catching insects, small birds or mammals and impaling their bodies on thorns. This helps them to tear the flesh into smaller, more conveniently-sized fragments, and serves as a "larder" so that the shrike can return to the uneaten portions at a later time. A typical shrike's beak is hooked, like that of a bird of prey, reflecting its predatory nature. They definitely sound mean... |
